The Board of Management of St Mary's Secondary School has considered carefully the current situation regarding the postponement of the parent - teacher meetings for Second Year, Fifth Year, Transition Year and Leaving Cert Applied
The postponement resulted from the current dispute between the Department of Education and the ASTI. At present this national dispute is unresolved. There is no agreement to hold parent- teacher meetings outside of normal school hours as has been the practice in recent years.
The Board of Management recognises that it is essential that parents have an opportunity to meet teachers to discuss the progress of their child/ children. The Board has decided that all of the remaining meetings take place on the one day, Tuesday March 7th. As a very large number of teachers will be meeting over 300 parents on the day it is necessary to cancel all lessons. Therefore all students will stay at home on that day.
The Board recognises that daytime meetings are not always convenient for parents. However, it is anxious that the meetings go ahead. Therefore the parent-teacher meeting for 2nd, 5th, TY and LCA (Year 1) will take place on Tuesday March 7th from 9.15am to 3.30pm. There will be a break for lunch from 1.15 to 1.50pm. Please allow plenty of time. Teachers will be meeting very many parents on the day and will only be able to spend a few minutes with each.
Thank you for your understanding on this matter. We look forward to meeting you then.
